Due to a favorable climate, a traditionally strong agribusiness sector, and abundant minerals, oil and gas, and other natural resources, the Region offers many investment opportunities in these sectors. LAP identified and invested in a vertically integrated palm oil business in southern Mexico, which has the right microclimate for palm tree cultivation. In addition, the Fund has invested in an environmental tailings remediation project in the Dominican Republic which offers additional attractive exposure to the sector. The Fund’s active pipeline includes numerous natural resource opportunities.

LAP has avoided large scale mining projects which often carry significant environmental risks that are difficult to manage. LAP’s preference in all sectors is to focus on smaller projects where it can be a more important part of the project’s capital structure and therefore the project’s corporate governance (such as the environmental tailings remediation project mentioned above).
